THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO SO- CIOLOGICAL SERIES, established by the Trustees of the University, is devoted primarily to the publication of the results of the newer developments in sociological study in America. It is expected that a complete series of texts forundergraduate instructionwill ultimately be included, but the emphasis will be placedon re- search, the publications covering both the results ofinvestigation and theperfectingofnewmethods ofdiscovery. The editors are convinced that the textbooks used in teaching should be based on the resultsof the efforts ofspecialists whose studiesof concrete problems are building up a new body of funded knowledge. While the series is called so- ciological, the conception of sociology is broad enough to include many borderline interests, and studies will appear which place the emphasis on political, economic, oreducational problems dealt with fromthe pointofviewofa general conception ofhuman nature.
